New Release & Review ... Darkest Before Dawn by Maya Banks

Darkest Before Dawn
KGI Series #10

THE ALL-NEW KGI NOVEL from the “incredibly awesome" (Jaci Burton) #1 New York Times bestselling author of When Day Breaks.

The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business.
Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background.
Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can’t...

The enigmatic Hancock has been both opponent and ally to the KGI teams for as long as they've known him. Always working a deep game, Hancock's true allegiance has never been apparent, but one thing is for certain—he never lets anything get in the way of duty.

But now, his absolute belief in the primacy of his ultimate goal is challenged by a captive he's been ordered to guard, no matter how much she suffers in her prison. She's the only woman who's ever managed to penetrate the rigid walls surrounding his icy heart, but will he allow his perplexing feelings for the beautiful victim to destroy a mission he's spent years working to complete or will he be forced to sacrifice her for “the greater good.”

**I received an ARC for an honest review.**

This is my first KGI book and I loved it. At first it started off bit slow for me and I was beginning to wonder if it would ever catch my attention, but boy did that turn around and turn around quickly. This book isn't just about some romance, it is so much more. It's about survival and strength; trust and forgiveness; love and acceptance; and so much more.

Honor has to be one of my favorite female leads, now. She is so strong and determined that I admired her right off the bat. When most would have laid down and given up the fight she remained strong in her need to survive. She kept going in the face of the hardest ordeals she had to face. She looked ahead to surviving when she wanted to just give into the darkness. She just kept going. Until she found someone to ease her journey.

Hancock.

Well, let me say that the is one honorable man. He is strong in his convictions, loyal to a fault and he too is so much more than he gives himself credit for. At first I wanted to hate him. I wanted to reach into my kindle and shake him. I wanted to yell at him "How could you justify this mission?". I loved that one by one Honor gained the respect of Hancock and his men. I loved that when he finally started to realize that there was more than just his end goal, that he acted on it, only things didn't go as he planned.

Things had to be done. Trusts were broken. Hearts were shattered and souls died. Missions went FUBAR. Everything came crashing down around them, but how they handled it really made this story great.

I really enjoyed this story. I fell in love with the characters all of them, even though this was my first book of the KGI series, I liked all the characters that eventually make an appearance. Honor is a character that I respect and so is Hancock. Even the others who showed their loyalty and support won me over.

This is a great read and I recommend it to anyone looking for something with more than just a romance.
