At ten years old, Hadley Dixon's life changed forever. Since those few tragic weeks, she's tried to keep the past buried, but old bones have a way of rising up. Grown now, Hadley can't hide any longer.
Haunted by a boy who never made it home, a woman who sings in moonlight and dances in flames, and the strange, scarred recluse who watches it all from the shadow of the pines, the time has come for Hadley to pay for her sins. They say the truth will set you free, but sometimes it extracts a terrible price along the way. Is it a price Hadley's willing to pay?
A darkly moving mystery, with a southern Gothic feel, The Grave Tender is the story of a family where no one is what they seem, the women at the heart of that family, and the extraordinary lengths they're willing to go to protect the ones they love.

**I received an ARC for an honest review.**
This book... I have been mostly consumed with romance lately and had forgotten my love for anything else, but The Grave Tender has reminded me of what else is out there. It brought to life that I had been focused on one genre and missing out on others all together. This book is phenomenal. It has haunting storyline and characters that have been haunted and consumed with their pasts. I went into this book without even a hint of the way I would feel once I finished reading it. The last 20% of this book was read with a lump in my throat as things slowly were brought into light for Hadley.
Hadley had an abnormal childhood with the things that she had to witness and be apart of. In her eyes it was her normal. It was normal to have a disfigured uncle that lived in the woods and shadows. It was normal that her mother only came out of her room to roam about the forrest at night. It was normal that there was always an air of unease around the Dixon farm. It was normal that she lost herself by the tragic events that occurred when she was just ten years old. What wasn't normal was the things that she would learn 23 years later.
This is a story about a woman who returned to her home and learned things from a past she likely wanted to forget. She learned truths from her uncle that brought him into the light and made him seem human to her. She reconnected with her childhood friend who was marked by things of the past. She eventually set things right with the people in the only way she knew how and she felt stronger by it as well as Jude (her childhood friend) and Eli (her uncle). They all let go of the past and wanted nothing more that to move forward. By the end of this book I was a mess. My face was wet with tears and my throat was tight. This is a powerful and emotional read and I am so glad to have rekindled my love of reading other genres with The Grave Tender.
