Release Day & Review ... Withering Hope by Layla Hagen

Withering Hope
by Layla Hagen
Release Date: January 19, 2015

Synopsis

Aimee’s wedding is supposed to turn out perfect. Her dress, her fiancé and the location—the idyllic holiday ranch in Brazil—are perfect.

But all Aimee’s plans come crashing down when the private jet that’s taking her from the U.S. to the ranch—where her fiancé awaits her—defects mid-flight and the pilot is forced to perform an emergency landing in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

With no way to reach civilisation, being rescued is Aimee and Tristan’s—the pilot—only hope. A slim one that slowly withers away, desperation taking its place. Because death wanders in the jungle under many forms: starvation, diseases. Beasts.

As Aimee and Tristan fight to find ways to survive, they grow closer. Together they discover that facing old, inner agonies carved by painful pasts takes just as much courage, if not even more, than facing the rainforest.

Despite her devotion to her fiancé, Aimee can’t hide her feelings for Tristan—the man for whom she’s slowly becoming everything. You can hide many things in the rainforest. But not lies. Or love.

Withering Hope is the story of a man who desperately needs forgiveness and the woman who brings him hope. It is a story in which hope births wings and blooms into a love that is as beautiful and intense as it is forbidden.

**I received an ARC for an honest review.**

This is my favorite book of Layla's now. I LOVED the whole thing from beginning to end. It wasn't your everyday romance where insta love is involved and then BAM a relationship ensues. No, it was so much more. For one there were only two characters in one setting for 98% of the book. I loved the little glimpses that we got into Tristan's character and the way he tries to keep himself closed off and away from Aimee. Even though they are the only two people in the rainforest and they need each other and there is no place for them to go.

Aimee's character surprised me from who I thought she was at the beginning. When the plane crashed and they find themselves stuck in the rainforest during the rainy season, I expected Aimee to become whiny and just an overall terrible person (considering she has lead a life of privilege). But she surprised me completely. She made the best of her situation and only ever succumbed to hopelessness a few times and it would be expected of anyone. What I found that I most loved about Aimee's character is her strength during the whole time they were there. Not just physically but emotionally. She tried her hardest to help Tristan with all of the daily activities to help them survive and she also tried her hardest to ignore the unwelcome feeling that kept creeping in on her in regard to Tristan. But when she had that one moment of clarity and realized that if she could have those feelings for someone else other that who she was engaged to and needed to act on them. That is really when I respected her character. She didn't act on them because it had been months since she felt any kind of connection it was because deep down she knew that she was missing something in her life and that something was what she felt for Tristan.

Tristan...wow that man is something! I could not wait to unravel his character and what he was hiding. Honestly it didn't hit me until right before his past was revealed of what it might be. And when it was revealed it made so much more sense. He is so strong and skilled considering there situation. He is so patient and caring when it comes to Aimee and considering that they are stuck in the rainforest with the hope of being rescued dwindling by the day. He makes the most of the situation and makes sure that they survive. I really respected his character and the fact that even though he knew all along that he was attracted to Aimee he didn't try to act on it until he just couldn't take it anymore. He needed her. She is the only thing that calms his demons. That is one of the things that I loved the most about their situation. The she kept his demons at bay.

Now, I don't want to keep going on and on and give it all away. So, I will leave you with this. This is a beautiful story and survival and love. The ending is phenomenal and make me cry like a baby...I mean really Layla...you just had to go there?!? If you like your romance to have some substance and not the instal-love and too much sex then this is the right book for you. I LOVED IT!!!
