Surviving Goodbye follows Elliot’s collision course with Fate as he embarks on a journey to locate his daughter’s real father. ***I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.**
This is my first book by Morgan Parker and what a book to start with. This book is amazing and emotional. I immediately connected with Elliot Fitch and the situation he found himself in in the wake of his wife's death.
Elliot was dealt the most crushing news no father ever wants to hear from the lips of his dying wife..."She's not yours." When I started this book and felt the love and devotion that Elliot had for his dying wife, I was crushed by her confession. I was crushed for Elliot and for his daughter Lena. As the story progresses you feel the pain and torment of Elliot's depression, but you also admire him for making the decision to find his daughters biological father. When he decides he needs to tell his daughter about her mothers dying confession, Lena confesses she is pregnant. So he doesn't reveal his wife's biggest betrayal but instead feels that finding the biological father is needed more now.
By the time all of this has come around we already have met Veronica, a delivery girl who Elliot decides he can trust with his darkest secret and accepts her help to find the biological father. From this point on you see the gradual change in Elliot and also in his relationship with both his daughter and Veronica. Their relationships are well written and very believable for the characters and all they had been through. I think I enjoyed the fact that this entire story is told from Elliot's POV and made everything so much more relatable. The personality that Elliot has is not over the top and unbelievable for a widower. He is a jilted lover who is pissed and no longer believes in love but he didn't turn into a man whore and think he was gods gift to women. He is one of the most perfect leading males and one of the best male POVs that I have ever read.
I was so curious to how everything would play out and how all things would come to a close. Mr. Parker did an excellent job in all aspects of this book, I even like the mentions of him as an author or dropping the names of his previous books...that was great.
I LOVED this book and I definitely will be reading more from Mr. Parker.
