Mastered
The Enforcers #1
by Maya Banks

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

4 STARS

NetGalley ARC

This rating is a bit different than normal for me. I really enjoyed where this book ended up overall, but the beginning was a bit slow going for me and at times a little hard to get on board with. So, I guess if the beginning made this book a 3 STAR read for me, but I stuck with it and it eventually made the 4 STAR mark.

As I said the beginning is a bit slow and a bit hard to get on board with, just because some parts move at lightning speed awhile others seemed to drag on and on. Like Evangeline getting dressed and ready for the club and everything that happened between then and the initial "meet" seemed to drag on. But once the meet happened that seemed to fly by and left me a bit stunned an shocked. Sexy as hell, but still shocked and bit reeling that it happened so quickly and was over like a hit and run.

Once the story started progressing I couldn't get through it fast enough. I loved getting to know each one of Drake's men and I loved watching them be flummoxed by Evangeline and her personality. I loved that once she deemed somebody special she defended them a protected them in her way and Drake's men were no different, even to her "friends." Evangeline's friends are another part of this book that I disliked. At the beginning they are shed in light that makes them look like the best friends ever, but that is soon over with when Evangeline makes her decision. I hate that her friends shunned her and treated her as they did, but I am hoping that in Dominated they will get the wrath of Evangeline.

The way this book ended left me both satisfied and oh so unsatisfied. I hated not getting their whole story, but oh my gosh I am so happy that the author did not rush it and kept to her writing style. I do feel though that some of the the sexy parts of this book were a bit distracting with the characters wayward thoughts and inner dialogue. But at the same time I see why those parts were necessary to fully understand the characters in those moments, although distracting, it did make for more intimate sexy scenes.

I can not wait for the rest of Drake and Evangeline's story and I can not wait for more of The Enforcer's series! I need me some Maddox and Silas too.
