Blog Tour Stop & Review ... Fighting Silence by Aly Martinez

Fighting Silence
by Aly Martinez

Meet Till & Eliza in Aly Martinez’s newest fighter series!

About the Book
Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it's the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?
I've always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine. I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn't a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.
You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.
They both happened anyway.
Now, I'm on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting for my career.
Fighting the impending silence.
Fighting for her.
Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.

I think that's the sound I'll miss the most.

Excerpt

“Hi.” I stood up off the bed as he started climbing through the window.
His eyes went wide when he saw me, causing him to momentarily lose his balance on the windowsill and go crashing to the floor. “God. Damn,” he cursed as he rose to his feet while taking in my new wardrobe. “You… I…um…” His hand went to his lip.
He was rooted in place only a few steps away, but his eyes traveled over every inch of my body and back again.
Till was speechless. I had never felt so empowered in my life.
“Are you okay?” I feigned concern as I slowly approached.
“Not even close,” he told my breasts, making me giggle.
After sliding a hand under the edge of his T-shirt, I raked a fingernail over each of his abs before dipping it into the waistband of his jeans.
“I’m sore today,” I announced, closing the distance between us. My breasts were pressed against him, but he still hadn’t even attempted to touch me yet. I had plans to remedy that. I smirked then stood up on my tiptoes, kissing the base of his neck. “Make me sore for tomorrow too.” At the last second, I darted my tongue out to the hollow dip at the base of his neck. It was meant to tease him, but as the taste of his skin hit my tongue, I was flooded with memories of taking more of him in my mouth. The moan escaped before I’d even felt it coming.
A loud rumble shook his chest, but that was the only warning I received. Suddenly, I was off my feet and sailing through the air. Just as I landed on the bed, Till crashed on top of me. His mouth roughly landed on mine.
“Tell me we can’t do this again,” he demanded as his hands found my breasts.
“We’re definitely doing this again.” I arched into him.
“It’s gonna get so messy, Eliza. Please.” He groaned as I reached into the front of his jeans.
“I’m okay with messy,” I breathed, guiding his hand from my breast and into my panties.
“Fuuuuuck” he cursed when he discovered just how thorough I’d been with the razor earlier. His finger pressed inside me as his body traveled down the bed and settled between my legs, stripping my panties off during his descent.
He added another finger in a less than gentle but overwhelmingly intoxicating, rhythm.
“Tell me to stop, Eliza. We can’t do this again.” He grazed his teeth on the inside of my thigh.
“We’re already doing it.”
“Tell me to stop.”
“No.”
“It’s going to ruin us.”
“If you don’t stop talking, you’re going to ruin this.”
“I’m serious.” He kissed the inside of my other thigh, his fingers never faltering in their steady pace.
“So am I. Stop trying to talk yourself out of this while your fingers are buried inside me.” I threaded a hand into his hair and gave it a gentle tug.
“Goddammit. Tell me to stop!” he demanded one last time, but his fingers sped before twisting in the most delicious way.
I decided to give him what he wanted, but only because I knew he wouldn’t follow through.
“Stop.” I rolled my hips forcing him even deeper.
“Well, it’s too fucking late now.”
I would have laughed, but his mouth sealed over my clit and stole my breath, words, thoughts, and orgasm. My body shook as he pushed me higher even while I was falling. It shouldn’t have worked like that, but whatever voodoo magic Till Page was working with that night was all right with me. He didn’t stop swirling his tongue until I used his hair to pry his mouth away.
“Too much!” I cried.
He looked up with a wickedly proud grin. His hand disappeared, and seconds later, his cock replaced it.

4.5 STARS

**I received an ARC for an honest review.**

This story is so different from any others out there. I loved that the two characters where poor kids that grew up together. I loved that you could feel the love, devotion and especially the attraction between Till and Eliza right from the beginning. What I loved the most was that Till did not want to ruin what they had by taking it to the next level because he knew he would never be able to live without Eliza and in turn what I loved because of that was when Eliza took a stand for what she wanted and also what Till wanted.

This fighter book is just so much different than most that I have read. There was no hot shot billionaire fighter waiting to sweep Eliza off her feet. Till didn't take anything he ever had for granted and he worked hard to get to where he was by the end of this book. That is what I loved about this story. These two people had depended on each other so long that they had already made a life together. They raised Till's brothers together and they actually raised each other. Eliza's devotion to the Page boys is just great. I love that she treats them like her own brothers and that they love her like she was their sister. Their not typical family worked so well for them and I liked that they all wanted to overcome the things of their past and not be like their parents.

All the characters right down to Quarry were so strong in this book. I really admired Till's ethic and his want for a better life, but not for him. For his brothers and Eliza. I really liked that everything Till accomplished, Eliza was right by his side encouraging him. What was very touching was when Till's started to lose his hearing, Eliza was the one to ground him and make him understand.

This book is pretty emotional. I got choked up several times while reading this book and I am looking forward to more. At the end of this book we got two different POVs, Flint's and Quarry's. So, I am hoping that those two boys will get their own books as well, because the ending of this book left it wide open for more to come from the Page boys.

Which brings me to my 4.5 start rating. I did not give 5 full stars because I felt that the ending was a tad rushed. I felt like things just started happening and then all of a sudden they were somewhat resolved and then it was the epilogue with a vague description of what happened and then over. Although it did leave it open for more from Flint and Quarry, but I was just left wanting bit more. But still this is a must read and is definitely NOT like any other fighter book out there!

“You. In.”
She pointed to the room behind me, and I glanced over my shoulder.

“In there?” I smirked again, but her
cheeks didn’t get any redder, to my astonishment. “Is now really the time?”

She pushed against my naked chest,
her steely eyes fixed on my face the whole time, then slammed the door behind
us with her foot.

“If you wanted some private time
together, you just had to say so.” I joked, leaning back against the chair that
was positioned in front of the mirror in my dressing room.

“You think this is funny?” Kate
asked, her head tilted to the side.

“Actually … yeah.” I nodded and
smiled again, not unkindly.

Kate looked down, and for one
God-awful moment I thought she was going to cry.

Then, she did something better than
crying. Holy mother of crap sticks, was this better than crying.

She raised her hands to the top of
her default button-up shirt—and she undid the top button. Creamy, white skin is
exposed, defined collarbones, teasing my eyes down to—

She undid another button. Holy fuck,
what was Kate doing? Her cleavage heaved in front of me, and I got a hint, just
a hint of her default lacy bra.

“It cannot be a coincidence that one
man is shirtless in front of me six times in two weeks.”

            I grinned. She’d counted.

That totally means she’s into it.

            Then she did something that
completely surprised me. Hell, it shocked the living daylight out of me. In one
fluid movement, she grabbed the sides of her shirt and pulled, popping open her
entire top and then shrugging it over her shoulders so she stood there in the
world’s hottest default, lacy bra, skin-tight default denim jeans and these
shoes—how the hell did I not notice them before?—that were red, high, and sexy
as sin.

I swallowed. “So … this is a revenge
…” Swallow, “… strip?”

“This is me, trying to do something
to get you to pay attention and listen when I ask you to do something.” Kate’s
voice was honey as it melted into me.

I raised my hand to the back of my
neck and rubbed at the muscles there that had suddenly become tight with
tension. “Oh, I’m paying attention, all right.” I widened my eyes. There was
absolutely no doubt about that right now.

            “Get back stage, Lee. Seriously.
This is your last warning.”

I swallowed again, and felt the
clamminess of perspiration beading my brow. Was it hot in here? It sure felt hot.

She stepped close to me, till her
chest was almost touching my chest. Shit, she smelt like soap and hairspray and
… apples. Delicious.

“I …” My gaze flicked to her lips,
and I wondered if it would really be that bad if I kissed her. After all, that
wouldn’t be promising her marriage, and maybe she’d be up for a casual thing.
And her lips—they were so red, and plump, and—oh God, she just licked them with
that sweet-as-hell little tongue, and—

The palm of her hand made contact
with my face before I even registered her arm moving. Five elegant fingers
stung my cheek and I jerked backward, clutching my face in pain. “What the
hell?”

Kate walked over to where her shirt
lay on the floor and picked it up, casually shrugging it on. She had the
biggest shit-eating grin on her face, and I couldn’t help but give a little
smile myself. I’d not seen her look so animated since she first boarded the
bus.

“I told you it was your final
warning,” she said, doing up her buttons, then turned to the door, wrenching it
open and making a sweeping gesture with her arm, allowing me passage through.
“Now, Mr Collins, if you please.”

            “Thanks,” I mumbled, walking past
her and out into the corridor. I passed Xander’s door, and a thought flashed
through my mind. What if she stripped for all the guys to get them on stage? I
couldn’t have her just—

“Lee?” The voice halted me in my
tracks. I spun to face her.

She threw my default shirt at me. “Put
some clothes on.”

Synopsis
CAMERON
Life’s the shit!
Chicks squeal over how wild and yummy I am, play their silly games trying to tie me down. But I’m free as a bird, doing what makes life life: kicking extreme-sport-ass!

I base jump, snowboard, bungee jump. I do anything for the rush.

Then, Ingela blows into town for college—a cool Swedish blast of trouble. Foulmouthed and runway-gorgeous, the girl seeps in like poison and melts the freaking brain.

To Ingela I am what chicks were to me: pastime, leisure, entertainment, pleasure. She’s killing me, and I’m digging it. There’s a new rush in town! Yeah, I hunt down my highs, and now the chase is on. I’ll catch her soon enough, just, what’s the deal with her ex?

BO

With Ingela, sex is a dance. A slow tango where skin flows over skin. It is slick readiness, a quiet welcome. It’s smooth, warm, right, and all wrong.

On and off. On and off. Again, she’s wrecked with grief. It’s a reminder of how I destroy her, how crushed relationships shouldn’t be revived.

We’ve done this for years, now, but clearly we’re in for more.
Excerpt

CAMERON

The chase is over. Right here, right now, this is it. Even if it only lasts thirty seconds, the rush of what I’m about to do floods me and makes me feel. It’s so intense, every muscle in my body goes rigid with anticipation.

The air is sharp and early-morning raw. I stare out from my post on an overhang off Firam Peak. Let my eyes judge the steep drop into the ravine on the backside of the mountain. Jagged granite walls form unpredictable patterns that crash to the bottom the way I will soon, and a light dusting of snow contrasts starkly with the somber stone.

I shake my arms. Not to relieve the tension but to make sure I’m nimble and ready. I didn’t invite my friends Dan and Marek along today. I’d be better off with someone else around, of course, but nothing compares to the thrill I experience as I step forward alone. I’m on the edge, now, in every sense of the word.

I draw in a breath of icy oxygen. Crack my fingers inside my gloves and adjust the strap on my helmet. I’m ready.

It’s so easy to plunge off the cliff. All I do is heave up on my toes and extend my arms. A light bend at the knees and I’m off, flying.

Ah, yes. I fly.
